25/10/2016: 5 bottlenose dolphins and 10 Atlantic grey seals

1.5 hour survey. Start time 10:42
Weather conditions: sea state 1-2, visibility >10km, light swell, cloud cover 4-7 with and without glare
1 Atlantic grey seal

Despite calm waters and good visibility throughout the survey, only 1 grey seal was spotted taking long dives near the Cardinal buoy, approximately 20 metres off the starboard side of the boat. 2 gannets were seen out at sea, as well as a razorbill.

4 Atlantic grey seals

4 seals were spotted over 3 sightings. One sighting consisted of an adult and a juvenile. All of the seals were within 50 metres of the boat.

1 Atlantic grey seal and 5 bottlenose dolphins

1 adult grey seal was spotted hauled out, 30 metres off the portside of the boat, within the first 15 minutes of surveying. Then, within the final 15 minutes of the survey, 5 bottlenose dolphins (including 1 juvenile) were seen leaping and tail-slapping at the sea surface. These were spotted 100 metres away from the boat, on the portside.

4 Atlantic grey seals

4 seals were spotted over 2 sightings, consisting of 2 adults in each one. They were all in the water, either actively swimming or bottling.
