25/08/2017: Bottlenose dolphins and an Atlantic grey seal

Three bottlenose dolphins and a male Atlantic grey seal was seen swimming by the fish factory in the second half of this survey.

The same group of bottlenose dolphins and a bull Atlantic grey seal were seen at the start of this survey, with the seal then coming right up to the harbour wall. There were no sightings in the second half of the survey.

A group of three bottlenose dolphins including a calf were seen in the bay, with the calf then splitting off from the rest of the group to go close to the harbour wall then over to the cardinal marker. This group of dolphins stayed in the bay throughout the survey, with two more seen at the cardinal marker at the end of the survey.

The same dolphins remained in the bay for this survey, and were seen being very active and chasing prey by the cardinal marker.

In this survey there were nine bottlenose dolphins in the bay, with a group of six bottlenose dolphins including a calf were spotted being very active by the fish factory, with two other groups foraging by the cardinal marker with some leaping recorded. Some of the groups went past the fish factory round the headland and out of view, leaving two bottlenose dolphins foraging in the bay in the second half of the survey, finally with no bottlenose dolphins spotted in the last 15 minutes.

Five bottlenose dolphins in a loose group were seen foraging in the bay close to the headland for most of this survey. By the end of the survey, four more bottlenose dolphins had arrived in the bay, with a group of six including a calf being very active by the fish factory, and three more closer to the cardinal marker.
