24/08/11: 18 bottlenose dolphins and one harbour porpoise

9 bottlenose dolphins including three calves

Our first sighting of the survey was of an adult bottlenose dolphin foraging just off New Quay Head where there was also another adult and calf foraging. Another two sets of adults and calves and a single adult were also foraging in the bay.

Towards the end of the survey one adult bottlenose dolphin was sighted off New Quay Head travelling west.

Eight bottlenose dolphins including three calves

At the very start of the survey a single adult bottlenose dolphin was sighted foraging in the bay just off the end of the harbour wall. Later on three dolphins including two calves were seen west of New Quay Head leaping and bow riding several boats. Towards the end of the survey a group of around 4 bottlenose dolphins including a calf were sighted off the headland foraging and leaping.

One harbour porpoise

Around halfway through the survey one harbour porpoise was seen east of Cwmtydu travelling eastwards.
