23/10/12: Bottlenose Dolphins

Weather conditions: Overcast/dull, sea state 1, wind direction E/SE

Eight Bottlenose dolphins

 

Two bottlenose dolphins were spotted at the beginning of the survey foraging south of the cardinal buoy on the reef. They then separated and started foraging separately from each other. Five bottlenose dolphins including one calf then travelled east from the fish factory whilst leaping. They then stayed half way between the cardinal buoy and the fish factory playing and leaping. Another bottlenose dolphin was then spotted travelling east from the fish factory where it then begun to forage for the duration of the survey.

Weather conditions: Overcast/dull, sea state 1, wind direction S

Eight bottlenose dolphins

The first two dolphins were spotted foraging at depth near the fish factory; they were shortly joined by two more bottlenose dolphins that began leaping. Two dolphins left this group and travelled west towards the fish factory. The remaining two dolphins were then joined by two more and this group then remained foraging and leaping near the fish factory for the duration of the survey.
