23/09/11: 14 bottlenose dolphins and three Atlantic grey seals

Two bottlenose dolphins and two Atlantic grey seals

The first sighting of a single female Atlantic grey seal in the water was just off Bird’s rock.  A further female Atlantic grey seal was observed down the coast as the boat was approaching Cwmtydu.  A mother and calf bottlenose dolphin were also sighted on the way back to New Quay harbour, foraging just off the fish factory.

12 bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

The first sighting of five bottlenose dolphins, including 2 calves, was in New Quay harbour, southeast of the harbour wall.  The group of bottlenose dolphins were observed to be travelling west.  A further five bottlenose dolphins, including a calf and a new born, were seen tail slapping and travelling southwest further out of the harbour, towards the cardinal buoy.  Down the coast, approaching Cwmtydu an adult grey seal was seen in the water.  Finally, on the boats return to New Quay harbour two adult bottlenose dolphins were sighted foraging off the fish factory.
