23/07/15: Bottlenose Dolphins, Grey Seals and Harbour Porpoise

Five Bottlenose Dolphins.

The first sighting for this survey was a little more than 10 minutes into the survey, when a group of three dolphins, two adults and one juvenile, were seen about 250 meters from the bow of the boat. These dolphins were seen near a known bird colony, with around 150 birds of various species seen at the same time. The second sighting for this survey came around 15 minutes after the first, when two adult dolphins were seen around 60 meters from the right side of the boat.

One Atlantic Grey Seal

The first and only sighting in this survey occurred about an hour into the survey, where a lone adult Grey Seal was seen in the water, 40 meters of the left of the boat.

Weather conditions: Sea state 2-3, visibility >10 km, light to moderate swell.
Four Harbour Porpoise, three Bottlenose Dolphins, and two Atlantic Grey Seals.

The first sighting of this survey was around 15 minutes in, when two Harbour Porpoise were seen foraging around 60 meters from the right side of the boat. The next sighting did not occur until nearly an hour later, when a single Bottlenose Dolphin was seen around 90 meters from the left of the boat, also foraging. 10 minutes later, a grey seal was seen in the water around 80 meters, with another being seen 10 minutes after that, but this time only 50 meters away. 20 minutes after the last seal sighting, another pair of Harbour Porpoise was seen travelling west, about 120 meters from the left side of the boat. Shortly after this, a pair of Bottlenose Dolphins were seen leaping out of the water about 150 meters from the left of the boat.
