23/07/2017: Bottlenose dolphins

A group of dolphins were seen foraging, chasing fish at the surface of the water during the first 45 minutes of the survey. Later in the survey two dolphins were seen travelling towards the harbour wall.

A lone dolphin was observed foraging close to the Cardinal marker at the start of the survey before disappearing. At the end of the survey the same dolphin was again spotted near the Cardinal buoy. Around 22 oystercatchers in flight were also seen during this survey.

The lone dolphin continued to forage around the harbour bay. All the dolphins left the survey area an hour into the survey. There were no other marine mammal sightings however, a group of 9 oystercatchers flew across the bay.

The survey was fairly quiet until the last 15 minutes when a group of four bottlenose dolphins including one calf were seen milling in the bay. Two northern gannets were seen hovering above the dolphins and a group 20 oystercatchers flew towards the headland.

Two dolphins were seen travelling out of the bay, past the headland at the start of the survey. A lone dolphin was later spotted close to Dolau beach. The same lone dolphin was then seen foraging near the Cardinal marker. Around 25 oystercatchers were seen at the end of the survey.

A lone dolphin was seen foraging close to the headland throughout the survey. A number of bird species were also seen including 3 gannets and 8 oystercatchers.
