22/07/2017: 36 bottlenose dolphins and 7 Atlantic grey seals.

 

 

1.5 hour survey. Start time 12:15

Weather conditions: sea state 1-2, visibility >10km, light/medium swell

10 bottlenose dolphins and 1 Atlantic grey seals

 

The first sighting was of a group of three bottlenose dolphins including a mother and a calf foraging by the cardinal marker in the bay. Two lone bottlenose dolphins were spotted further along the coast, both of which were foraging. One adult Atlantic grey seal was seen in the water near Bird Rock. Further along the coastline, a group of three adult bottlenose dolphins and another group of two adult bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging.

Weather conditions: sea state 1-3, visibility >10km, light/medium swell

17 bottlenose dolphins and 5 Atlantic grey seals

 

The first sighting was of a group of ten bottlenose dolphins which were seen tail slapping and lunging near New Quay headland. Later in the survey a group of three Atlantic grey seals were spotted in the water bottling. Another two seals were seen bottling and in the water. Later during the survey a group of two bottlenose dolphins were seen leaping and foraging. Another two groups of three and two were seen foraging.

2 hour survey, start time 16:05

14 bottlenose dolphins and 1 Atlantic Grey Seal

 

The first sighting was a group of three bottlenose dolphins that were seen foraging with two Gannets overhead. This was followed by a group of four dolphins foraging, spotted twenty minutes later. A grey seal was also seen in the water. Two lone bottlenose dolphins were spotted later on foraging. Two more groups were seen foraging later on in the survey, one group of two and a group of 3.
