22/07/2016: Three Bottlenose dolphins, zero Atlantic grey seals

2hr survey. Start time 07:00

Weather conditions:  Overcast/Rain, wind direction: SE, sea state: 1

No bottlenose dolphin sightings seen during the survey although large amounts of birds recorded including herring gulls, oyster catchers, large flocks of guillemots and razor bills, great block-backed gull, cormorant, foraging kittiwakes and a single rock pipet.

2hr survey. Start time 09:00

Weather conditions: Overcast/Fair, wind direction SE, sea state: 1
As with the previous survey, no bottlenose dolphin sightings recorded.

2hr survey. Start time 11:00

Weather conditions: Fair/Sunny, wind direction S, sea state:1/2

No bottlenose dolphins again seen during the duration of this survey.

2hr survey. Start time 13:00

Weather conditions: Overcast/Rain, wind direction SW, sea state: 2

No dolphins also seen during this survey.

2hr. Start time 15:00

Weather conditions: Rain/Overcast, wind direction: NW, sea state 2

The first sightings of a bottlenose dolphins of the day recorded approximately one hour into the survey, directly north of the sea wall and parallel to Birds Rock. The solitary individual was seen traveling west, before milling around the Cardinal Marker and then eventually leaving the area with around fifteen minutes remaining in the survey.  No further sightings were recorded.

2hr. Start time 17:00

Weather conditions: Overcast, wind direction: SW/W/NW, sea state 1

A single bottlenose dolphin was seen traveling from the headland in the general direction of the Cardinal Marker, where it stayed with splashing and tail slapping seen. Another bottlenose dolphin was soon seen close to the first, displaying behaviour indicating foraging.  The two individuals proceeded to join and interact with a large amount of splashing and diving seen for the remainder of the survey.
