22/07/2014: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

Nine bottlenose dolphins, three Atlantic grey seals and three harbour porpoises

At the start of the survey, four bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging and travelling west near the cardinal buoy near New Quay. An hour into the trip, three harbour porpoises were seen foraging near Ynys Lochtin. Half an hour later, a juvenile male Atlantic grey seal was sighted in the water and shortly after, near Cymtydu, two female seals were seen hauled out of rocks.

At the start of the survey, a mother and calf bottlenose dolphin was seen in New Quay Harbour. An hour into the survey, two male grey seals were seen in the water close to Cwmtydu. Following this a harbour porpoise was sighted briefly surfacing near Ynys Lochtin. Towards the end of the survey, a group of seven bottlenose dolphins including one calf were seen leaping and tail slapping off New Quay Harbour Wall.

11 bottlenose dolphins, two Atlantic grey seals and one harbour porpoises

A single male Atlantic grey seal was sighted in the water close to New Quay Harbour Wall. Following this, a group of six bottlenose dolphins were seen leaping, foraging and travelling North West in the bay. Almost an hour later, two Atlantic grey seals were seen in the water off Cwmtydu. Half an hour later, a mother and calf bottlenose dolphin was sighted foraging, tail slapping and leaping near Ynys Lochtin. Towards the end of the trip another grey seal was spotted in the water and a further three bottlenose dolphins were seen leaping and foraging.
