22/05/12: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seal

Four bottlenose dolphins

After the first half an hour one bottlenose dolphin was sighted near the fish factory foraging. This dolphin stayed for the duration of the survey moving around the survey area. Two more bottlenose dolphins came in to the area off of the fish factory after 45 minutes; they were also foraging and moving around the area, one of them was also seen leaping out of the water. In the last half an hour another bottlenose dolphin was also seen foraging near the cardinal buoy.

11 bottlenose dolphins

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the survey period in the area between the fish factory and the cardinal buoy and the harbour wall at quite a distance from the harbour wall. At the start of the survey four bottlenose dolphins including a calf were seen this increase up to seven by the end of the first hour, they were foraging. More dolphins arrived in the area and in the last half an hour 11 bottlenose dolphins could be seen in two groups off of the fish factory foraging and also leaping out of the water.

One Atlantic grey seal was seen in the last fifteen minutes in the water east of the pier.
