21/09/13 – Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

2 hour survey, start time: 09:00
Weather conditions: fair, sea state 1, wind SE-S-SW
5 bottlenose dolphins, including one calf and one Atlantic grey seal

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the entire survey. A mother and calf were thought to be foraging near the harbour wall at the start of the survey and then travelled to the cardinal buoy where they remained foraging for the remainder of the survey. One bottlenose dolphin was seen travelling out of the area towards the fish factory in the first half hour of the survey. Two other bottlenose dolphins joined the mother and calf at the cardinal buoy in the final hour of the survey, which were seen leaping and appeared to be foraging. An Atlantic grey seal was also seen near the harbour wall towards the end of the survey

2 hour survey, start time: 13:00
Weather conditions: Sunny, sea state 2, wind SW
4 bottlenose dolphins, including one calf

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the entire survey. A mother and calf were seen milling around and appeared to forage near the cardinal buoy throughout the entire survey. They were seen travelling in a north easterly direction offshore at the end of the survey. They were seen with one or two more bottlenose dolphins near the cardinal buoy throughout the survey.

2 hour survey, start time: 15:00
Weather conditions: Sunny/Fair, sea state 2, wind NW-W
2 bottlenose dolphins, including one calf and one Atlantic grey seal

One grey seal was seen near the fish factory in the first hour of the survey. Later, a mother and calf were seen travelling in an easterly direction to the cardinal buoy where they appeared to forage for the remainder of the survey.
