21/04/2014: 20 bottlenose dolphins, four Atlantic grey seals

Four bottlenose dolphins and two Atlantic grey seals

Our first bottlenose dolphin was seen just outside New Quay harbour travelling (direction unspecified). Two Atlantic grey seals were seen near Cwmtydu, one of which was a female hauled out and the other was in the water, its’ gender unidentified. While passing the fish factory another two adult bottlenose dolphins were identified.

Weather conditions: sea state 2-4, visibility started at 1-10km and improved to >10km, light swell
11 bottlenose dolphins, one Atlantic grey seal

Seven bottlenose dolphins were seen near New Quay harbour bow riding on the boat, tail slapping, foraging and interacting closely with each other. A female atlantic grey seal was then seen in the water a few kilometers NE of Ynys Lochtyn. The final sightings of bottlenose dolphins were back in New Quay harbour where they displayed foraging behaviour and travelling north/north-eastwards.

Five bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

Five bottlenose dolphins were seen in New Quay harbour foraging and leaping. A female Atlantic grey seal was seen in the water on the return journey just before birds rock.
