12 Bottlenose dolphins, 3 Atlantic grey seals and 2 harbour porpoises
At the very beginning of our all day survey, an older seal pup was spotted in the water 50 metres from the boat. About 10 minutes later a bottlenose dolphin was seen right up close to the boat – it came within 20 metres. Another 10 minutes later and our third sighting was of an Atlantic grey seal, this time an adult identified as female. After a quiet few hours with only a barrel jellyfish sighting, at 13:09 a group of six bottlenose dolphins were sighted – including 2 juveniles. They were noted to be travelling east. A few hours’ later two harbour porpoise were seen only 40 metres from the boat, travelling in a westerly direction. Between this time and the conclusion of the survey at 17:16 – a single grey seal was seen in the water, as well as two dolphin sightings of 5 individual adults right at the end of the trip.
