20/06/2016: 14 bottlenose dolphins

Eight bottlenose dolphins

Five bottlenose dolphins were seen in the bay between the harbour wall and the headland from the beginning of the survey. Four were seen travelling with irregular surfacing east into the bay, and one was observed taking long dives, thought to be foraging at depth, in front of the harbour wall. Throughout the next 45 minutes a further two bottlenose dolphins joined the others, with leaping, splashy surface behaviours and travelling around the bay observed.

Six bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

Throughout the survey six bottlenose dolphins were observed foraging in the bay. Rafts of gulls and diving gannets were also observed following the dolphins around the bay, with fish seen at the surface, and a large feeding frenzy was seen beyond the headland. An Atlantic grey seal was also seen swimming from in front of the harbour wall to the headland.

Five bottlenose dolphins

Five bottlenose dolphins were still observed in the bay from the previous survey period. The dolphins were observed foraging and travelling around the bay throughout the full survey.
