20/05/12: Nine bottlenose dolphins and three Atlantic grey seals

Six bottlenose dolphins and two Atlantic grey seals

The first bottlenose dolphin sighting was recorded as the survey was starting within New Quay’s harbour.  One dolphin was observed travelling in a westerly direction.  Shortly after a second bottlenose dolphin was spotted travelling in a westerly direction within New Quay’s bay.  Fifteen minutes later a solitary male Atlantic grey seal was sighted hauled out on the rocks.  Midway through the survey five bottlenose dolphin, three adults and two juveniles, were found at Ynys Lochtyn feeding and bow riding.  On the return journey as the boat was approaching Cwmtydu a female grey seal was seen hauled out on the rocks.

As the boat trip reached Ynys Lochtyn three bottlenose dolphins, one adult and two juveniles, were sighted foraging for food and bow riding alongside the Sulaire.  When approaching Cymtydu on the route back down the coast an Atlantic grey seal was observed hauled out on the rocks.
