19/09/12: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

2hr survey; start time 09.00

Weather conditions: Fair/ overcast/dull/ sunny, sea state: 3-4, wind direction; NW/W

Three bottlenose dolphins and two Atlantic grey seals.

 

One adult bottlenose dolphins was observed early on in the survey travelling with long dives from near the fish factory out towards the cardinal buoy. At this time there was also one Atlantic grey seal that appeared to be foraging at depth with long dives close to the harbour wall. Shortly after this time two bottlenose dolphins were observed foraging with long dives in the harbour. One dolphin left the area and the other remained foraging for a short period of time. Later on in the day one male Atlantic grey seal was observed travelling with regular surfacing from the harbour wall up to the fish factory.

Weather conditions: Fair, sea state: 2-3, wind direction; NW/W, SW

One bottlenose dolphin and one Atlantic grey seal

 

One bottlenose dolphin was observed foraging at depth around the cardinal buoy for the first half of the survey. Later in the survey one male Atlantic grey seal was seen travelling with regular surfacing moving away from the harbour wall.
