19/09/11: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals



2hr survey. Start time 09:00
Weather conditions: Overcast/dull, sea state 2, wind S
Nine bottlenose dolphins

Bottlenose dolphins were sighted throughout the survey. Groups were seen travelling east offshore from the fish factory and west beyond new quay headland. Later dolphins were sighted forging around the cardinal buoy.

Weather conditions: Overcast/dull, sea state 2, wind SE
Four bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

One Atlantic Grey seal was sighted swimming close to the harbour wall in the first half of the survey. Bottlenose dolphins were present in the second half of the survey. They were observed milling around at the surface between the harbour wall and fish factory, later one dolphin was seen chasing prey at the surface.

Weather conditions: Overcast/dull, sea state 2, wind W
Two bottlenose dolphins

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the survey. One bottlenose dolphin clearly displayed chasing prey behaviour at the surface close to the harbour wall, whilst the majority were observed foraging around the cardinal buoy and north of the harbour wall.

Weather conditions: Overcast/dull, sea state 2, wind W becoming SW later
Two bottlenose dolphins

Bottlenose dolphins were sighted north of New Quay headland displaying leaps and lunges during the first 15minutes of the survey. There were no sightings for the rest of the survey.
