10 bottlenose dolphins and 6 Atlantic grey seals
Just a few minutes after the boat survey began, three bottlenose dolphins (including one juvenile) were observed around 60 metres away from the boat and were leaping, tail-slapping and milling around the surface. Near Ynys Lochtyn, another four bottlenose dolphins (including a juvenile) were seen taking long dives beneath the surface, thought to indicate that they were foraging at depth. A gannet was also seen diving and hovering around this group of dolphins. During the second hour, another bottlenose dolphin was also observed taking long dives and thought to be foraging. Towards the end of the survey, a female Atlantic grey seal was observed hauled out on the rocks. Shortly afterwards, a group of four Atlantic grey seals (three females, one male) were also sighted near Bird Rock, two of which were hauled out on the rocks and two in the water.
