19/04/14: Seventeen Bottlenose dolphins

Eight Bottlenose Dolphins

Dolphins were seen from 9.30. They were mostly seen doing long dives, and were thought to have been foraging at depth between the fish factory and the cardinal buoy and further offshore. Several of the dolphins were also seen doing fast circling behaviours at the surface with tail slaps leaps and lunges. A total of 8 dolphins were seen around the harbour from 10.00 in four separate groups, a maximum of 4 in a group.

Seven Bottlenose Dolphins

Bottlenose Dolphins were seen throughout the entire two hour survey, including a mother and calf. The dolphins were seen doing long dives, thought to be foraging at depth across the harbour, from the fish factory over to the cardinal buoy in small groups of up to three or four. Three dolphins, including a calf were seen travelling towards the reef to forage, and displayed behaviours such as leaps when they stopped.

Two bottlenose dolphins

Two Bottlenose dolphins were seen within the first 15 minutes of the survey travelling towards the fish factory doing long dives and surfacing at irregular intervals. There were no more sightings for the remainder of the survey.
