18/07/2014 – 40 Bottlenose dolphins and three Atlantic grey seals

26 Bottlenose dolphins

At the start of the survey, a bottlenose dolphin mother and calf were seen travelling south close to the harbour wall. Shortly after, another two adult dolphins were sighted foraging near Bird’s Rock. Half way through the survey a pod of 14 bottlenose dolphins including four calves were seen leaping, tail slapping and socialising near Ynys Lochtyn. A further four dolphins including one calf were also seen foraging and leaping close to Ynys Lochtyn. Two adult bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling west near Bird’s Rock and the mother and calf were seen again in New Quay harbour.

Seven Bottlenose dolphins

At the beginning of the survey two adults and one juvenile bottlenose dolphin were sighted foraging in New Quay bay. Following this, three adults and one juvenile were seen milling and foraging close to Bird’s Rock.

At the start of the survey, two adult bottlenose dolphins were seen feeding on fish in New Quay bay. An hour into the survey, three adult Atlantic grey seals (two male and one female) were sighted in the water close to Ynys Lochtin. An hour later an adult bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging and tail slapping near Aberporth. Shortly after, a group of four adult bottlenose dolphins were seen leaping and foraging again near Aberporth.
