18/05/2015: Eight bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

2hr survey. Start time 09:00

Weather conditions: Rain, wind direction SW, sea state 3.

Three bottlenose dolphins

Two bottlenose dolphins were spotted toward the end of the first half of the survey leaping and jumping close to the cardinal marker. One individual was also seen close to the end of the harbour wall taking long dives. These were seen for roughly 30 minutes in the same areas, then two individuals were seen close to the end of the harbour wall taking long dives. These remained here for the rest of the survey.

Eight bottlenose dolphins

At the beginning of the survey three individuals were seen close to the cardinal marker jumping and leaping out of the water. Five individuals (including one calf and two juveniles) were also seen within the harbour foraging at depth. Two of the individuals close to the cardinal marker were then seen regularly surfacing but travelling west. Three of the individuals close to the end of the harbour wall were then seen travelling North West towards the fish factory. Five individuals were later seen north east of the harbour wall jumping out of the water. Nothing was then spotted for the second half of the survey.

One Atlantic grey seal

One Atlantic grey seal was spotted in the last half hour of the survey just north of the harbour wall bottling in the water.
