18/04/2016: Bottlenose Dolphins and Harbour Porpoise

 

2hr survey. Start time 07:00
Weather conditions: overcast, sea state 3, wind direction SW

At 7h45, the first bottlenose dolphin was spotted, it was later joined by a mother and a calf. Around 8h15, another two dolphins were spotted close to the cardinal buoy. The dolphins were seen foraging, leaping and travelling in the bay until the end of the survey.

At the start of the survey, the group of bottlenose dolphins previously spotted in the morning were still foraging in the bay. At 9h15, six dolphins, including a mother and calf, were also spotted foraging close to the harbour wall. They were later joined by two other dolphins. After 9h45, there were no other sightings.

Weather conditions: overcast, sea state , wind direction W

Halfway into the survey, three bottlenose dolphins were spotted off the harbour wall travelling east. They were later joined by four dolphins. These two groups of dolphins were spotted foraging in the bay until the end of the survey.

Weather conditions: overcast, sea state 2, wind direction SW/W

At the start of the survey, three bottlenose dolphins were spotted close to the cardinal buoy. They were later joined by another dolphin. They were seen foraging and leaping. After two pm, there were no more sightings.

Weather conditions: overcast, sea state 2, wind direction SW/W

One hour into the survey, a harbour porpoise was spotted close to the harbour wall. No more sightings were seen during this survey.
