17/09/13 – Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seal

2 hour survey, start time 9:00
Weather conditions: Overcast/dull/rain, sea state: 2/3, wind W/WSW-WNW-S/SW
3 Bottlenose dolphins including 1 calf, 1 Atlantic grey seal

One Atlantic grey seal was seen in the first 30 minutes of the survey close to the harbour wall. In the final hour of the survey, a bottlenose dolphin was seen leaping and travelling rapidly in an easterly direction from the fish factory. Shortly after, it was joined by 2 bottlenose dolphins, including one calf. They were all thought to be foraging near the cardinal buoy for the rest of the survey.

3 Bottlenose dolphins including 1 calf

Three bottlenose dolphins, including one calf, were seen travelling in an easterly direction while appearing to be searching for prey between the fish factory and the cardinal buoy in the first 30 minutes of the survey. Afterwards, they left the area and there were no sightings for the rest of the survey.

Weather conditions: Rain/Overcast/dull, sea state: 1/2, wind SE-S-SW-W
1 Atlantic grey seal

There were no sightings in the first hour and 30 minutes of the survey. Shortly afterwards, an Atlantic grey seal was seen between the pier and the fish factory, where it remained until the end of the survey.

One Atlantic grey seal was seen 15 minutes into the survey between the harbour wall and the fish factory. It then left the area, and there were no other sightings for the rest of the survey
