17/08/2016: Twelve bottlenose dolphins, four harbour porpoise and ten Atlantic grey seals

Ten bottlenose dolphins and five Atlantic grey seals

Early in the survey, two bottlenose dolphins were spotted foraging and travelling in New Quay Bay. Over the course of the next hour one Atlantic grey seal was spotted bottling in the water and upon arrival at Ynys-Lochtyn a group of five bottlenose dolphins including a calf and juvenile were seen foraging and bow-riding. In the next two hours, three Atlantic grey seals were spotted. One bottlenose dolphin was seen travelling and leaping offshore off New Quay headland. Another Atlantic grey seal was spotted shortly before arriving New Quay Bay, where two bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging.

In the first half hour of the survey, two Atlantic grey seals were spotted in the water. A little later, a group of four harbour porpoise including a juvenile were seen foraging offshore of Cwmtydu. Over the course of the next hour, one Atlantic grey seal and four common terns sitting on a log were spotted. On arrival at Aberporth headland, two bottlenose dolphins were observed foraging. On the return journey to New Quay, two Atlantic grey seals were spotted in the water, one of them male.
