17/07/2017: Bottlenose dolphins and harbour porpoise

During the last half an hour of the survey one bottlenose dolphin was spotted near the fish factory and another dolphin was seen near the cardinal buoy.

The two dolphins seen at the end of the previous survey joined together to forage in the bay. They were later joined by another dolphin before heading out of the bay. A mother and calf harbour porpoise were spotted close to the harbour wall during the last 15 minutes of the survey. They were seen surfacing a few times before disappearing.

A lone bottlenose dolphin was observed close to the cardinal marker and appeared to be foraging.

Weather conditions: sunny, sea state 1, wind direction N

The lone bottlenose dolphin seen in the previous survey continued to forage throughout the bay. During the second half of the survey a group of six dolphins including a calf were spotted foraging close to the headland, occasionally leaping and lunging out of the water.

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the survey with some individuals leaping out of the water.
