17/05/12: 16 Bottlenose dolphins and 11 Atlantic grey seals

Weather conditions: sea state 1-2, visibility >10km, light swell
1 bottlenose dolphin and 7 Atlantic grey seals

At the start of the survey one bottlenose dolphin was observed leaping and foraging near to the fish factory.  10 minutes later close to birds rock two female Atlantic grey seals were spotted hauled out on the rocks.  Further along the coast from Cwmtydu two Atlantic grey seals were seen hauled out on the rocks and along the route home another three were sighted hauled out close to the first bird colony.

4 Atlantic grey seals and 15 bottlenose dolphins

10 minutes into the survey three female Atlantic grey seals were spotted hauled out on the rocks close to the first bird colony.  At Ynys Lochtyn a solitary female Atlantic grey seal was observed hauled out on a rock.  Finally 20 minutes from the end of the survey a pod of at least fifteen bottlenose dolphin including calves and juveniles were observed foraging, leaping and bow riding alongside the Sulaire between the New Quay headland and Target rock.
