17/04/15 Six Bottlenose Dolphins and a Atlantic Grey Seal

Six bottlenose dolphins

At the start one bottlenose dolphin was north of the harbour wall and two were spotted south of the harbour wall including a calf taking long dives thought to be foraging at depth. These bottlenose then moved east and another group of 2 bottlenose appeared just off from the fish factory and another east of the wall. They remained in the harbour throughout the two hour period. Two of the animals spent some time bow-riding as a trip boat pulled into the harbour.

Five bottlenose dolphins including one calf

The five of the bottlenose dolphins from the previous survey including a mother and calf remained in the harbour but headed away from our viewing point towards the fish factory where we lost sight of them. Some fast movement was seen with tail slapping and leaps before they left the area. There were no other sightings during the rest of the survey.

One Atlantic grey seal

Through most of the survey we had no sightings, however a grey seal arrived in the last 15 minute section. It was spotted in the water very close to the land by the fish factory.
