16/09/2017: Bottlenose dolphins and grey seal

Bottlenose dolphins were spotted every 15 minutes throughout this survey, with two separate pairs spending time foraging and chasing prey on the surface in front of the harbour wall and near the cardinal buoy for the whole two hours.

The four bottlenose dolphins seen during the first survey of the day remained in the area for the duration of the survey before dispersing and moving toward the fish factory by 12:30. At 11:00 a swimming Atlantic Grey Seal was also spotted just off the harbour wall, however it was not spotted again during the survey.

At 13:00 one single dolphin was spotted near the cardinal buoy, possibly a remaining dolphin from the previous group of 4-6 dolphins, after 13:30 however the dolphin was not seen. A single dolphin was then spotted at 14:15 travelling offshore in a Westerly direction.

Weather conditions: overcast, sea state 2/3, wind direction N/NW

Only one dolphin was spotted during this two hour survey, at 16:00 the dolphin was spotted milling on the surface and interacting with a boat near the cardinal buoy, there were no other sightings during the survey.
