15/08/14: Bottlenose dolphins

Three bottlenose dolphins.

Three quarters of an hour into the survey a mother and calf travelled past the harbour wall and into the harbour bay and began foraging just outside the swimming area. This pair was later identified as our newly re-named “Jackie” and her calf. They continued to forage in the bay for some time before travelling out of the bay. Towards the end of the survey another individual travelled into the bay and began to forage in the harbour.

Three bottlenose dolphins.

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the survey. An individual was foraging at the beginning of the survey in the harbour, and shortly after a second mother and calf were foraging at the end of the harbour wall where they remained for some time. In the last 45 minutes of the survey one bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging near the cardinal buoy.

Weather conditions: sunny, fair, overcast/dull. Sea state 3. Wind NW
Two bottlenose dolphins

Throughout the whole survey a mother and calf were seen foraging near the Cardinal buoy.

One bottlenose dolphin was seen intermittently throughout the survey foraging near the Cardinal buoy.

Weather conditions: sunny, overcast/dull. Sea state 2-3. Wind NW
Four bottlenose dolphins

Dolphins were seen in the last hour of the survey.  One individual was seen foraging near the cardinal buoy before traveling west though the survey towards the fish factory. At the same time a mother and calf appeared off New Quay head, foraging. In the last 15 minutes of the survey another bottlenose dolphin was seen travelling west from the cardinal buoy through the survey.
