15/07/12: Atlantic grey seal and Bottlenose dolphins

2hr survey. Start time 9:00

Weather conditions: Fair/sunny; sea state 3; wind direction NW

Three bottlenose dolphins including one calf.

 

Bottlenose dolphins seen towards the end of the survey with one seen foraging at depth around the harbour wall and a mother and calf seen foraging at depth around the cardinal buoy.

Weather conditions: Sunny; sea state 3; wind direction NW

Five bottlenose dolphins including one calf

Bottlenose dolphins were sighted throughout the survey. Most of the dolphins were seen foraging near the Cardinal buoy or travelling between the Cardinal buoy and the headland. A calf was spotted foraging with its mother near the Cardinal buoy. Two bottlenose dolphins were seen mingling at the surface, leaping and lunging.

One Atlantic grey seal

 

One Atlantic grey was sighted in the water, next to the harbour wall.

Weather conditions: Sunny or fair; sea state 2-3; wind direction SW-WSW

One Atlantic grey seal

 

One female Atlantic grey seal was seen bottling a couple of metres from the harbour wall.
