14/06/12: 13 bottlenose dolphins and 29 Atlantic grey seals

Thirteen Bottlenose Dolphins and eighteen Atlantic grey seals

Shortly after the start of the survey two female adult Atlantic grey seals were sighted one in the water and one hauled out. Near Cwmtydu a lone female was sighted in the water followed shortly afterwards by sightings of three Atlantic grey seals in the water including a juvenile. Near the island of Ynys Lochtyn a large group of twelve Atlantic grey seals was sighted in the water. Offshore at the start of the return leg of the survey eight Bottlenose Dolphins were sighted. Three were then sighted near to Birds rock. A final two were sighted including a juvenile by New Quay headland.

Five Atlantic grey seals

In the high cliffs of the SAC a hauled out female Atlantic grey seal was sighted. This was shortly followed by a group of three adult female Atlantic grey seals and then another sighting of a lone female Atlantic grey seal in the water.

Six Atlantic grey seals

Towards Cwmtydu Seals were sighted four times all in the water and all adults. The first sighting was a lone female. The second two sightings were both of two large male seals each time. The final sighting was of a lone seal of which the sex was not identified.
