14/05/14: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

Five bottlenose dolphins including 3 calves

Throughout the survey dolphins travelled and mingled between the cardinal buoy, the harbour wall and the harbour. Several calved were observed in the groups.

Five bottlenose dolphins, including 3 calves

Five dolphins were seen with 2 calves travelling in and out of the survey area throughout the survey time, taking long dives and occasional leaps.

Nine bottlenose dolphins, one Atlantic grey seal

Small groups of dolphins (1-4 animals) including calves travelled between the cardinal buoy and fish factory before heading further offshore. Behaviour included leaps, tail slaps and long dives.

Weather conditions: Fair – sunny, wind NW-NNW, sea state 1-2

No sightings.

One bottlenose dolphin

In the final 45 minutes of the survey a single dolphin was seen diving for long periods of time, possibly foraging at depth.
