13/10/2013 – Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seal

Eight bottlenose dolphins, including one calf

One dolphin was seen travelling east from the fish factory while appearing to search for food at the start of the survey. Shortly after, another dolphin was seen foraging near the harbour wall and then a mother and calf travelled into the survey area from the fish factory and then appeared to be foraging close to the cardinal buoy with one other dolphin. The three dolphins, including one calf were then seen chasing prey at the surface near the fish factory while two dolphins appeared to be foraging in the same area. The dolphins then left the survey area, and there were no sightings until the last 15 minutes of the survey, when three dolphins were seen travelling east from the fish factory.

At the start of the survey, four dolphins were seen travelling within the survey area. They then left the area and there were no sightings for 30 minutes. Afterwards, three dolphins including one calf were seen travelling east with forward leaps from the fish factory. They were then seen foraging with one other dolphin near the cardinal buoy, then near the harbour wall for the next hour. They then travelled to the fish factory, and left the survey area. In the last 15 minutes of the survey, one Atlantic grey seal was seen close to the harbour wall.
