13/09/12: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic Grey Seals

Two Bottlenose Dolphins

Two bottlenose dolhins were seen foraging at depth around the cardinal buoy, they then started leaping in the same area. Later they travelled from the pier  towards the fish factor, where one bottlenose dolphin started to forage, whilst the other began leaping again, the foraging dolphin then began leaping and mingling with the other. Toward the end of the survey, one dolphin was foraging around the pier, whilst the other dolphin  was seen travelling towards the harbour. At the pier one bottlenose dolphin was leaping and playing at the surfaces whilst the other dolphin was seen travelling rapidly towards the beach.

Four bottlenose dolphins

Two bottlenose dolphins were spotted at the pier mingling at the surface. Two bottlenose dolphins were then seen foraging at depth at the fish factory as well as two bottlenose dolphins mingling at the surface near the pier. Two dolphins were spotted foraging at depth near the cardinal buoy which were then joined by another dolphin closer to the buoy, foraging at depth later on in the survey. This behaviour lasted some time. No more sightings were recorded for the rest of the survey.

Two Atlantic Grey Seals

One female seal was seen close to the waters edge near the pier, another seal was later seen near to the female at the harbour wall.
