11/08/2017: 2 bottlenose dolphins and 1 Atlantic grey seal

Two bottlenose dolphins

The first sighting occurred just past New Quay harbour wall where an adult and juvenile bottlenose dolphin were seen foraging with a gannet overhead. There were no other sightings until the same pair of dolphins was seen on return back to the harbour.

Whilst departing from New Quay harbour the mother and calf dolphins from the previous survey were seen foraging and leaping, with two herring gulls circling above. An hour into the survey, a bull Atlantic grey seal was seen bottling in the water near Bird’s Rock.
