10/10/2013 – Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic Grey seals

2 hour survey, start time 09:00
Weather conditions: Overcast and dull/ fair / sunny, sea state 4-5, wind NE-N-NW
One Atlantic Grey seal

Over an hour into the survey there were no sightings but then an atlantic grey seal appeared by the harbour wall briefly. There were no further sightings.

Four Bottlenose dolphins

The first hour of the survey had several sightings as right at the beginning four bottlenose dolphins were seen spread quite far away from each other north of the harbour wall, travelling East possibly searching for prey on the move. They then all begin foraging at depth spread in three different groups between the harbour wall and the cardinal buoy. The dolphins began to disappear as the sightings dropped from two, to one, and then finally no more were seen for the remainder of the survey. The last time they were seen they were travelling whilst foraging and surfacing at irregular intervals.

There were no sightings for the majority of the time but 75 minutes into the an atlantic grey seal appeared by the harbour wall.
