10/09/2017: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

2hr survey. Start time 09:00
Weather conditions: overcast, sea state 2-3, wind direction S

Early in the survey five dolphins including at least one calf were seen approximately north east of the harbour wall towards the Cardinal Buoy. The group was well dispersed across the bay with a single animal staying close to the buoy whilst the others came together and were observed socialising throughout the survey. The calf was seen to perform several leaps.

Weather conditions: overcast/rain, sea state 2, wind direction W/S

A further 2 dolphins were seen at the beginning of this survey giving a total of 7 animals. The loose group foraged north of the harbour wall but numbers slowly decreased until by 12.15 all dolphins had left the area. During the remainder of the survey three Atlantic grey seals were seen with one male and one female being identified.

Weather conditions: overcast/rain, sea state 2-3, wind direction S

The only sighting was of a male seal at the beginning of the survey.

Weather conditions: overcast/sunny, sea state 2-3, wind direction SW/S

Mid survey three dolphins including one youngster were seen foraging north east of the harbour wall for about half an hour.
