10/09/12: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic Grey Seals

One bottlenose dolphins

One bottlenose dolphin was seen milling off Dolau beach before travelling and foraging towards the cardinal buoy.

Three bottlenose dolphins and two Atlantic grey seals

One bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging in front of Dolau beach and also a male Atlantic grey seal was seen in the same area. The dolphin was then joined by two other dolphins who also began foraging. An hour into the survey two dolphins left the survey area, just leaving one continuing to forage.

Six bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal.

Four bottlenose dolphins, including a calf were seen travelling and foraging east and an atlantic grey seal was seen in front of the harbour wall. The group of dolphins then began travelling whilst foraging east – west and it was realised the group comprised of 5 adults and a calf. The group remained in the area for the rest of the survey, travelling, foraging and briefly leaping.

Two Atlantic grey seals, both females, were seen in the water in front of the harbour wall for the last 45 minutes of the survey.
