10/09/11: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic Grey Seal

2hr survey. Start time 09:00
Weather conditions: Rain, sea state 2, wind SW
Seven bottlenose dolphins including one calf

Bottlenose dolphins were sighted throughout the survey near the fish factory and around the cardinal buoy. A variety of behaviours were displayed, including foraging and travelling, one group was observed travelling south east whilst another was observed travelling with pace west towards the fish factory. Mother and calf groups were very active displaying leaps, lunges and tail slaps between foraging.

Weather conditions: Overcast/dull/sunny/showers, sea state 1-2, wind SW
Nine bottlenose dolphins including one calf

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the survey around the cardinal buoy and inland between the harbour wall and fish factory. Most displayed foraging and leaping behaviour throughout the survey however six bottlenose dolphins were observed travelling south towards the end of the survey.

Weather conditions: Overcast/dull/rain becoming fair later, sea state 2, wind SSW becoming SW later
Seven bottlenose dolphins including two calves and one Atlantic grey seal
 
One Atlantic grey seal was sighted at the beginning of the survey swimming north of the harbour wall. Bottlenose dolphins including calves were seen for the majority of the survey foraging around the cardinal buoy and east of the fish factory. At the beginning of the survey one group including calf were observed travelling southeast whilst later a group with two calves were seen travelling west beyond the fish factory.

Three bottlenose dolphins

The bottlenose dolphins were seen for the majority of the survey, generally foraging in pairs in the area north of the harbour wall and east of the fish factory. One calf was sighted once during survey also foraging in the same area with the adult pair previously sighted. Some tail slaps were displayed towards the end of the survey.
