10/08/13 – Bottlenose dolphins

2 bottlenose dolphins

Two bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling and foraging between the cardinal buoy and the harbour wall during the first half hour of the survey.

Weather conditions: sunny/overcast, sea state 1-2, wind SW
7 bottlenose dolphins

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the survey period. Up to four bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging and leaping between the cardinal buoy and the harbour wall during the first hour of the survey. In the last hour a group of up to seven individuals including two juveniles were seen leaping, tail slapping and foraging between the harbour wall and the cardinal buoy.

Weather conditions: fair/ sunny, sea state 1, wind W
8 bottlenose dolphins

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the survey. Eight bottlenose dolphins including one juvenile were seen foraging and travelling near the cardinal buoy at the beginning of the survey. A group of 5 adults and one juvenile bottlenose dolphin remained around the cardinal buoy leaping and tails slapping for the remainder of the first hour. Two bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging and travelling near the fish factory and a further two bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging around the cardinal buoy during the last hour of the survey.

Weather conditions: fair/sunny/overcast/rain, sea state 1, wind NW-SE
10 bottlenose dolphins

One to three bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging and leaping near the fish factory and three to four bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging, leaping and circling at the surface around the cardinal buoy during the first hour of the survey. During the last hour of the survey groups of up to 10 bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling, milling, foraging and leaping between the fish factor and the cardinal buoy.
