08/10/11: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

One Atlantic grey seal

One male Atlantic grey seal was seen bottling close to the end of the harbour wall.

Weather conditions: Overcast/dull, some fair weather, sea state 2, wind SW
Three bottlenose dolphins and two Atlantic grey seals

Three bottlenose dolphins were spotted in the first part of the survey between the harbour wall and the fish factory. They were seen to be travelling slowly in a Southerly direction towards the Cardinal buoy where one dolphin was sighted some time later staying in the area and taking long dives. One Atlantic grey seal was sighted in the first part of the survey close to the end of the harbour wall while another was spotted at the end of the survey between the harbour wall and the fish factory.

Two bottlenose dolphins

All bottlenose dolphin sightings were seen throughout the latter part of the survey and all were seen in the area between the harbour wall and the fish factory. They were all staying in the same place and taking long dives.

Weather conditions: Overcast/dull, sea state 2, wind SW, S
Seven bottlenose dolphins including one calf

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the survey, most were seen near the fish factory while some were seen between the fish factory and the harbour wall. The adult and calf were seen in the last half of the survey and were seen travelling towards the fish factory while taking long dives, other dolphins were also seen travelling towards the fish factory in a North westerly direction. Other behaviours sighted were staying in one place while taking long dives or fast circling at the surface performing leaps or tail slaps.
