07/09/2017: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seals

2hr survey. Start time 09:00
Weather conditions: overcast/dull, sea state 2 in shore/ sea state 3 off shore, wind direction SW

Halfway through this survey a female Atlantic grey seal was seen swimming west between the fish factory and the harbour wall. Furthermore a group of two bottlenose dolphins were seen in the final 15 mins of this survey leaping far offshore.

Weather conditions: overcast/dull/rain, sea state 1, wind direction SW

Mid survey a group of two bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging near the cardinal buoy and then these dolphins moved to in front of the harbour wall where they foraged for around 45 minutes before then leaving the survey area. Then in the final 15 minutes of the survey an Atlantic grey seal was seen between the cardinal buoy and the harbour wall.

Weather conditions: overcast/dull/rain, sea state 1 in shore/ sea state 3-5 off shore, wind direction SW

Within the first half an hour of the survey a group of five bottlenose dolphins, which included one calf, were seen near the fish factory chasing fish at the surface of the water. These dolphins then travelled SW towards the cardinal buoy. This group of five then split up with two dolphins seen foraging near the cardinal buoy and the other three seen leaping closer to the harbour wall. Near this group of three dolphins an Atlantic grey seal was seen. These then dolphins then left the survey area and no further sightings were made in the remaining half of the survey.
