07/08/2013 – Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seal

3 bottlenose dolphins

Three bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling and foraging out from the fish factory for 45 minutes. Then one bottlenose dolphin remained foraging near the cardinal buoy.

2 hour survey, start time: 11:00
Weather conditions: sunny; sea state: 0; wind NW
3 bottlenose dolphins and 1 Atlantic grey seal

One bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging near the cardinal buoy throughout the survey period. In the first half of the survey a mother and calf were also seen travelling near the cardinal buoy and one female Atlantic grey seal was seen in the water next to the harbour wall.

2 hour survey, start time: 13:00
Weather conditions: sunny; sea state: 1-2; wind N-NNW
4 bottlenose dolphins

A group of up to four bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging between the fish factory and the cardinal buoy for the majority of the survey period and then dispersed leaving one bottlenose dolphin foraging around the cardinal buoy towards the end of the survey.

2 hour survey, start time: 15:00
Weather conditions: sunny; sea state: 1-2; wind NW
4 bottlenose dolphins

Three to four bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging, leaping and tail slapping between the cardinal buoy and the fish factory during the first half of the survey. Then one bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging near the buoys for the last half hour of the survey.
