07/08/11: 14 bottlenose dolphin, 1 harbour porpoise and 1 Atlantic grey seal

Weather conditions: overcast/dull, sea state: 2-3, wind direction: SW

One bottlenose dolphin was seen to be taking long dive east of New Quey harbour wall which suggests foraging at depth. Later in the survey three bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling west and taking long dives which suggests they were searching for prey whilst on the move. Two bottlenose dolphins were seen later travelling North West.

Weather conditions: overcast/dull, sea state: 2-3, wind direction: SW

One bottlenose dolphin was seen travelling south towards new quey harbour wall. Further off shore one mother and calf was seen to be foraging at depth. Two separate groups of bottlenose dolphins were seen travelling west from the cardinal boy towards the fish factory.

Weather conditions: overcast/ sun showers, sea state: 3, wind direction: WSW/SW

Two bottlenose dolphins one adult and one calf were seen in the second hour of the survey either milling around at the surface or taking long dives which suggests foraging at depth.

Weather conditions: overcast/rain, sea state: 2, wind direction: NW

One female Atlantic grey seal was seen near the harbour wall bobbing in the waves. Slightly further out from harbour wall two bottlenose dolphins were seen, one mother and one calf, they were seen to be milling around at the surface. Out in deeper water one bottlenose dolphin was seen to be foraging at depth. In the last half an hour of survey a harbour porpoise was seen north of harbour wall which was foraging at depth.
