07/07/2016: 19 bottlenose dolphins and 1 Atlantic grey seal

Five bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

Throughout the survey, one bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging and travelling between the cardinal marker and the headland, which was joined by a further four bottlenose dolphins in the second half of the survey. By the end of the survey, one bottlenose dolphin was observed exhibiting splashing behaviour at the surface near the headland, with two individuals foraging near the harbour wall. An Atlantic grey seal was also seen swimming east away from the headland at the beginning of the survey.

Ten bottlenose dolphins

The two bottlenose dolphins seen foraging near the harbour wall in the previous survey were still seen in the area for the first half an hour of the survey, before disappearing. In the second half the survey, a group of three bottlenose dolphins were observed foraging north of the harbour wall, before being join by a fourth individual. By the end of the survey, two more bottlenose dolphins had joined the group to form six, and were observed travelling towards the headland. Two bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging near the harbour wall.

Nine bottlenose dolphins

The eight bottlenose dolphins seen at the end of the previous survey, were still observed for the first half hour of the survey milling and travelling around near the headland, with three seen foraging around the harbour wall. Over the course of the next 45 minutes two bottlenose dolphins were observed foraging around the cardinal marker. All the bottlenose dolphins had disappeared by the end of the survey.

Two bottlenose dolphins

Forty five minutes into the survey, three bottlenose dolphins were seen around the cardinal marker, which were then joined by serval visitor passenger boats. They were then seen moving away from the boats, before leaving the area. For the remaining fifteen minutes of the survey, two bottlenose dolphins were seen milling between the headland and the cardinal marker.

Two bottlenose dolphins

The two bottlenose dolphins seen in the previous survey were seen travelling west towards the headland. The pair was then seen milling around the headland foraging, before traveling easterly towards the cardinal marker where they remained for the duration of the survey.

Five bottlenose dolphins

The pair of bottlenose dolphins, seen in the prior survey, was seen travelling north before leaving the area within the first fifteen minutes of the survey. Half an hour later, two bottlenose dolphins were then seen travelling west towards the headland, before foraging in the area.
