07/05/2015: 14 Bottlenose dolphins, 1 Atlantic grey seal

2hr survey. Start time 9:00
Weather conditions: Fair/ sunny, sea state 2, wind direction NE

At the beginning of this survey four bottlenose dolphins were seen in two separate groups, one close to the end of the harbour wall and one within the harbour. These individuals were then seen together foraging within the harbour and a calf was also spotted. No individuals were then spotted until the last quarter of the survey when two individuals, including a calf, were seen foraging at depth within the harbour.

Weather conditions: overcast/fair/rain, sea state 2, wind direction SW/S

At the beginning of this survey two bottlenose dolphins were seen very close to the end of the harbour wall milling at the surface, and one was seen North West of the harbour wall travelling west towards the fish factory. A group of four individuals were then spotted near the cardinal buoy displaying tail slapping and leaping behaviours. A further two individuals were then spotted within the harbour, one travelling east.

Weather conditions: Fair/ rain, sea state 2, wind direction SW

At the beginning of the survey the same group of four were seen by the cardinal buoy and they were joined by another two individuals also milling at the surface. These two individuals were then not seen for the rest of the survey, however the group of four stayed in the same area, exhibiting the same type of behaviour for the rest of the survey.

Weather conditions: Overcast/ fair/rain

One Atlantic grey seal was spotted in the middle of the survey just north of the harbour wall which stayed for half an hour and then was not seen again for the rest of the survey.
