05/09/2017: Atlantic grey seal and bottlenose dolphins

For the first 45 minutes of this survey a pair of bottlenose dolphins travelled through the bay, coming within close proximity to the harbour wall. Later, a large group including two calves were seen travelling back and forth through the bay.

At the start of this survey a pair of bottlenose dolphins was spotted travelling across the bay and past New Quay headland. Thirty minutes later, a single dolphin was spotted travelling in the same direction.

This survey was abandoned after 30 minutes due to heavy rain and poor visibility.

Several groups of bottlenose dolphins were recorded foraging and chasing fish just off the harbour wall as well as leaping and lunging further offshore. By the second hour of the survey the activity had quietened down and just one dolphin was spotted.

A solitary dolphin was seen foraging by long dives in the first half an hour. There were no sightings until the last half an hour of the survey when a group of dolphins was spotted off New Quay headland, as well as a bottling Atlantic grey seal bull.
