05/08/15 Bottlenose Dolphins and Atlantic Grey Seals

2hr survey. Start time 09:00.
Weather conditions: Overcast with rain to fair, wind direction S, sea state 2 to 1.
One Bottlenose Dolphin, and one Atlantic Grey Seal.

At the beginning of this survey, there was a lone Bottlenose Dolphin seen travelling east at the far edge of the survey area, and thought to be hunting on the move. After this first sighting, the dolphin was not seen for the rest of the survey. Around half an hour later, there was a single Atlantic Grey Seal seen in the water near the fish factory. There were no further sightings in this survey.

Weather conditions: Overcast, wind direction SE, sea state 1 to 2.

2hr survey. Start time 13:00.
Weather conditions: Overcast, wind direction SE to S, sea state 2 to 1.
Two Bottlenose Dolphins.

At around 13:45 a lone Bottlenose Dolphin was seen off the harbour wall, thought to be foraging at depth. This dolphin remained in roughly the same place for about half an hour before moving out to the fish factory, where it was joined by another individual. These two remained at the fish factory for around 15 minutes, thought to be foraging, before they disappeared.

Weather conditions: Overcast with rain to sunny, wind direction SE to SW, sea state 2.
Three Bottlenose Dolphins, and one Atlantic Grey Seal.

At the start of the last half hour of this survey, a group of three Bottlenose Dolphins was seen off the headland being very social, with lots of leaping, tail slapping and splashing. One of these three moved away in the last 15 minutes, but the other two continued their behaviour. At the same time as these dolphins were seen, there was also a lone Grey Seal seen in the water just off the harbour wall.
