05/08/14: 12 bottlenose dolphins

Two bottlenose dolphins.

An hour into the survey two bottlenose dolphins began foraging just off Traeth Dolau, they continued to forage just off the beach for the rest of the survey.

Five bottlenose dolphins.

Four bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging near the fish factory, this group then split with three individuals travelling west and a further two individuals foraging in the bay. This varying group of individuals continued to forage off the headland of the bay for the majority of the survey, with some splashy foraging with jumps and tail slaps. Two individuals were later seen foraging out in the bay near to the cardinal buoy.

Weather conditions: sunny/overcast. Sea state 2. Wind E-SE.
Five bottlenose dolphins.

Bottlenose dolphins were seen throughout the survey with a mother and calf, and another individual foraging north of the harbour wall a further individual foraging out in the bay. Another individual then joined, making five bottlenose dolphins with the mother and calf and other individual foraging just off the harbour wall, and two others foraging in the bay off Traeth Dolau. By around half way through the survey the dolphins had moved out to near the cardinal buoy, with the mother calf and one other foraging close to the buoy, and another individual foraging with jumps and tail slaps a little further off. These four dolphins (including one calf) continued to forage near the cardinal buoy for the rest of the survey.
